FAQs

Why begin working with a psychoanalyst?

Each individual that comes to the consulting room brings with them a complex and unique history filled with both wonderful and painful experiences. The process of working with a psychoanalyst in a therapeutic setting can have dramatic effects in one’s life and open up the possibility for living in a more satisfied and creative life.

Who do you treat?

I specialize in the treatment of adults and adolescents with anxiety and depression, dissociative experiences such as are present in Dissociative Identity Disorders (DID), psychosis, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and functional neurological disorders.

I also work with professionals, artists, educators, students, and athletes looking to find satisfaction and success in their personal and professional endeavors. Working with a psychoanalyst can help one to develop intimate knowledge of and experience with unwanted habits that continue to repeat themselves and hinder moving forward in one’s life or career.

If you are curious if psychoanalytic treatment is right for you, schedule a consultation to learn more about my practice and who it can help.

How often do we meet and how long is a session?

While there is no standard frequency, we will likely begin meeting once per week after an initial consultation. After getting more comfortable with the process, many patients find it helpful to meet twice a week as the treatment begins to bring up more pressing matters in their life. A session can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 60 minutes depending on what is taking place in the session at that time. I treat each session as a new and distinct window into your world. Leaving the session lengths open allows for more freedom and opportunity to explore as new thoughts, questions, and insights emerge.

My practice also offers intensive outpatient treatment for individuals requesting a higher level of care. Intensive outpatient treatment requires multiple meetings per week and can be a helpful bridge between outpatient care and in-patient services.

Do you offer homework and coaching in between sessions?

I believe that psychotherapy and can have a deep and lasting impact on individuals who are engaged and willing to confront their own memories, thoughts, and behaviors in session. The session may have a definitive end point, but the work that is set in motion continues before and after.

For urgent matters, patients may reach me by telephone at any time.
